The history of Novochem Ltd. dates back to 1938 when it started operating as the material supplier of MAORT (Hungarian-American Oil Ltd.Co.)

Till 1995 the company under various names (AGI, AGEL, Petrogáz) worked as a material supplying organization belonging to OKGT (National OIL and Gas Co.Ltd.,).

As from 1995 the company expanded its activity with the home distribution and export of secondary oil products of MOL Plc., and started to build up the trading and distribution of chemicals, plastic raw materials and agrochemicals. The company has become the 70th of the biggest Hungarian enterprises during eight years.

In 2002 MOL Plc., as the owner, reorganized MOL-Chem Ltd., limited its business activity and declared its intention to sell the company. MCM-Menedzser Ltd., founded by directors and senior managers of MOL-Chem Ltd., bought the 100% ownership of the company in December 2003 and at the same time also the name changed to Novochem Ltd.

In August, 2004 the German chemical distributor Overlack AG. acquired a 26 % ownership in Novochem Co. Ltd. by a capital increase.

Overlack AG. is one of the founders of the third largest chemical distributor group of the world, the Penta Group the yearly turnover of which is EUR 1,100 million.

With the participation of the professional investor Novochem Co. Ltd. can further strengthen its financial stability and encourage the close connection to the chemical distribution network of the European Union.

In 2005 Novochem Co. Ltd. founded the joint venture company Novochem Romania Co. Ltd., in Marosvásárhely, Romania. In 2006 the Serbian representation office of Novochem also started to work.By this step Novochem expand its chemical distribution activity in the Eastern region of Europe, as well.
